LoanWave.ca helps Canadians compare personal loans, car loans, business loans, debt relief options and credit cards — for free. Because we deal with money decisions, we hold our content to clear standards. This page explains how we research, how we stay independent, and how we make money.
LoanWave is not a lender
LoanWave is an independent comparison and referral website. We are not a lender, bank, broker, credit card issuer or financial institution. We don’t make loans, issue cards or make credit decisions. When you apply through LoanWave, you apply directly with a third-party provider, which sets all rates, terms and approval decisions.
How we make money
LoanWave is free for you to use. We earn a referral commission from some partners when you click a link on our site, apply, or are approved. This never costs you anything extra.
Commissions may influence which products we feature and where they appear on a page. They do not change the facts we publish — the rates, fees, requirements, pros and cons we describe come from providers’ own published terms and independent sources, and partners do not review or approve our articles before publication.
How we research and fact-check
- Primary sources first. We rely on Canadian government sources — the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada, the Bank of Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada and federal law — plus national credit bureau data from Equifax Canada.
- Provider terms. Product details come from providers’ published terms and are cross-checked against independent reviews where providers don’t publish full details.
- Every article lists its sources at the end so you can check our work.
- Calculations use standard loan amortization formulas, and examples are clearly labelled as illustrations.
- Regular reviews. Each guide shows the date it was last reviewed. Rates and rules change, so we update guides when major changes happen — such as changes to Canada’s criminal interest rate or Bank of Canada decisions.
What we will never do
- Publish fake reviews, testimonials or star ratings
- Guarantee approval or promise a specific rate
- Charge you a fee to compare or apply
- Hide that we earn commissions
Our content is general information
Our guides are educational and are not financial, legal or tax advice. For advice about your situation, speak with a qualified professional — for serious debt, that includes a Licensed Insolvency Trustee or a non-profit credit counsellor.
